As the high tech industry went through its worst-ever slump, one sector - Consumer Chips - was remarkably strong. This strength was seen in startups and incumbents in Asia as well as in the US, and led Sigmatel to be the first semiconductor IPO in two years. Will this trend continue or will Consumer Chips be a contrarians investment strategy for times when other sectors in the semiconductor world are beaten up? With our distinguished panelists we will discuss Consumer Chip trends as they foresee them.

  • Who are the primary drivers of the Consumer Chip world?
    - Are there distinguishing characteristics of Consumer Chip companies that have dominated over time?
    - In which consumer technology sector can startups find competitive advantages over incumbents?
  • Will the high cost of silicon development prevent startups from getting funded?
    - How should companies, startups and incumbents, work towards lowering capital requirements?
    - What role does Software play in the Consumer Chip world?

4. Software and Services SIG- "Future Outlook on E-Commerce "

There is no question that more and more people and businesses purchase goods and services online and that this trend continues to increase. In the dot.com days, we saw a number of companies started in an attempt to capitalize on the potential opportunities presented in the eCommerce space. Some have survived and are thriving today. Despite the dominance of eBay, Yahoo and others, the potential is clearly enormous.

  • Why did these companies survive?
  • What did these companies do right?
  • What is the next wave of emerging opportunities in eCommerce?
